Since I had a day off work, I decided to use my time wisely(?) and test out a batch of what we wanted to sell during our bakes sales to raise funds for The Nomad.
So I got all my materials ready
- Sugar
- Nutella
-Wax Paper
- Cornflakes
- Cocoa powder
- Instant oats
- Peanut Butter
- Measuring cup
- Milk
- Water
And I was ready to rock and roll (not before taking a photo of course)
The first batch of cookies turned out better then I thought! Even though I had a bit of a hiccup when I added in the oats before adding in the nutella and peanut butter! But thankfully I managed to salvage it in the end!
After handing out the cookies to our guinea pigs, we found that the comments were generally similar - cookies too soft - slightly too sweet. But thankfully, we got alot of encouragements as well! And some of our friends even wanted to buy from us.
You guys don't know how those few words gives our spirits a lift and spurs us on to try and achieve greater heights for The Nomad :)
But I still had a couple of hours to go before meeting my friends so I decided to head down to a cafe to read a book and get my caffeine fix.
After some research, I decided to head down to coast and company (because it was nearby to my place) and I've heard quite a lot about it.
And boy am I glad I decided to go down to C&C. Not only do they have good coffee, they also have one extremely important factor. Passionate people. I was really impressed that they really maintain the standards of their coffee.
What I mean by that is that they refused to serve bad coffee. When they changed their bag of beans, they asked the guy at the table beside if he was okay with waiting a while because they had to recalibrate the machine.
Also, the coffee beans displayed at the corner of the cafe caught my eye and I thought it was a divine coincidence since papa palheta is well known for their beans and we were running out of beans too. Our latest batch we used for cupping sessions with our friends, to hone our skills and to try out some experiments (like how the brew ratio affects acidity of the coffee and how brew time affects the taste of the coffee)
When I started to enquire about them, the barista (whom I think is the boss) offered to let me try a cup. A WHOLE CUP.
So here I am with my brewed coffee, compliments of C&C. It was a very balanced coffee and this is my take on it
Aroma - flowers in a park
Body - 4/10 (light bodied)
Taste - Citrus (lemony notes especially)
Aftertaste - wooden floorboards
I hardly finish a quarter of brewed coffee, but I managed to finish half of this cup (which says a lot actually)
So I am a happy girl, who can't wait to try the new beans! And we're testing out cold brews too! Much excites!
And because I had such a lovely time at C&C, I wanted to appreciate them and also let them know that their passion does not go unnoticed, so I just did a very simple thank you note.
I hope this made their day, and made yours too!
More updates on how to drink coffee like a pro and details of our bake sale and pre-orders too!
So stay tuned for more details! :)
Loves, The Nomad
